In the chaos of Prahran Market, you’ll find G.

A section of a butcher shop or steakhouse dry-aging room, featuring several large racks of raw meat hanging in glass-fronted refrigerated cases. To the left, a vintage-style, cylindrical piece of red equipment (possibly a scale or slicer) is partially visible, contrasting with the dark, modern metallic walls and the brightly lit meat display.
An interior view of G. McBean Family Butcher shows a luxurious, dark-toned shop entrance. The foreground is dominated by a curved glass display case showcasing various cuts of fresh meat. The overall design features dark tile and wood paneling, a coffered ceiling with track lighting, and terrazzo flooring with a marble inlay. The store's name is displayed above the entrance in large, gold lettering.
G. McBean Family Butcher Melbourne VIC

In the chaos of Prahran Market, you’ll find G. McBean Family Butcher. Formerly known as Gary’s Meats, the artisan butcher has not only expanded its space but also its legacy, reopening at the very spot where the founder originally set up shop back in 1984.

This is our second project with Armatage Jones and the incredible Wendy Bergman of Bergman & Co. The space reflects the care and attention to detail synonymous with Gary McBean’s craft. Terrazzo and marble floors, lush green tiling, brass detailing, and meticulously crafted timber joinery draw you in while the wrap-around displays, dry-age cabinets, and shelves full of rubs and marinades will keep you lingering; this is anything but your ordinary trip to the butcher.

The retail fitout exemplifies an immersive retail experience, made possible by extraordinary collaboration.

Products visible include cocktail frankfurts and streaky bacon, each labeled with a price. The counter's frame features a dark panel with a grid pattern accented by brass or gold trim in the foreground.
A close-up view of a retail wine display features gold-trimmed shelving holding bottles of wine, many with paper tags detailing information. The wall behind the shelves is covered in small, dark square tiles with gold grout. A vertical, modern wall sconce with an upward and downward glow illuminates the tiles on the left.
