Collectivus steps into a new era of independent design.

Interior design studio Collectivus has entered an exciting new chapter, with long-time leaders Amanda Leeson and Megan du Preez taking ownership of the business.

The announcement marks Collectivus’ formal separation from national fitout and construction group Unita, where it has operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary since 2013.

Moving forward, the studio will continue its evolution as a design-led practice focused on creating high-performing interiors across hospitality, wellness and retail.

The transition isn’t a reinvention, it’s a continuation. Amanda and Megan have led the studio for years, shaping its values, strengthening its client relationships and building a team that shares their commitment to thoughtful, high-performing design.

“This shift gives us the autonomy to shape the studio’s future with even more clarity and focus,” says Co-Director Amanda Leeson. “Our team, our vision and our creative direction haven’t changed, but now we can focus our energy on the work we’re most passionate about.”

“We’re excited by the opportunities ahead of us – to connect with new clients, explore new ideas, and continue doing the kind of work we’re proud to put our name to. Crafting spaces that spark connection, drive success and leave a lasting impression is what we do best.”

The balance between beautiful design and practical execution is a hallmark of the Collectivus approach. While their craft is rooted in aesthetics, it’s never just about what looks good on paper.

“Our role as designers isn’t just to imagine what a space could be,” said Co-Director Megan du Preez. “It’s to ensure the vision can be translated into reality, without compromise. We care deeply about the creative process, just as much as we do the final outcome.

“From the initial sketch through to completion, we bring a clear understanding of the commercial realities of every project. Our practice is grounded in our clients’ operational strategy, and we know how the space needs to function, not just how it should feel.

“We consider budget, timeframe and buildability from the outset. This helps us work with the client and builder to manage costs, navigate constraints and protect the integrity of the design intent through to handover.”

Collectivus has partnered with Unita to deliver hundreds of major projects across Australia, including the TotalFusion luxury health and wellness clubs.

These venues bring together movement, recovery, retail and hospitality in a single integrated experience – and showcase the studio’s ability to design across complexity without losing clarity.

“Collectivus has brought design intelligence and clear vision to every project we’ve worked on together over the past eight years,” said Unita CEO Matt Lane. “Their understanding of commercial realities are second to none, which is why working with them always feels so seamless.

“We’re incredibly excited to see where Amanda and Megan take the business next. They’ve built something special, and we’ll be cheering them on every step of the way.

“As the Unita business continues to grow, we see a huge opportunity to partner with collaborate with interior designers right across Australia.

“This move allows both Collectivus and Unita to expand our networks, build new partnerships and stay focused on what we each do best. We’re looking forward to working alongside many more talented designers in the years to come.”
