The Australian Bakeries We Dream About

Have you been dreaming about béchamel cheese and ham croissants, almond Danishes, zesty bitter orange custard cruffins or vanilla custard morning buns? Well so have we! To satisfy our sweet tooth, today we’re breaking down some of our favourite Aussie bakeries.

Lune Croissanterie | Kicking off our list of scrumptious bakeries is the world-renowned Lune Croissanterie. As the name suggests, this Melbourne bakery champions the humble croissant. The black industrial styled warehouse, designed by Studio Esteta, adopts a unique interior design approach. The large & minimalistic fit-out appears not like a shop, nor a factory but a space that celebrates the creation, complexity and ultimate enjoyment of a croissant. As the owner, Kate Reid’s is a former aerospace engineer, it’s no surprise that Lune’s fit-out has a precise and innovative look + feel. Whether you choose a traditional butter Croissant or a seasonal Danish, Lune’s baked goods never disappoint. If you stumble upon the block-long line of eager customers, you too will quickly realize that Lune has truly tapped into a market for exceptionally crafted baked treats. So much so, that the company has expanded into the Brisbane bakery market with a new store in Fish Lane.

Nodo | If you’re craving a doughnut but don’t want to overindulge, Nodo puts the fun back into wholesome food. The company is one of Queensland’s fastest-growing doughnut connoisseurs. So, if you’re daydreaming about the perfect sweet treat, then Nodo’s dreamlike eatery in Hawthorne (pictured in header) will be a match made in heaven. Patrons can now enjoy the artisan methods and delicious gluten-free flavours of Nodo’s desserts while relaxing with a coffee in hand. Designed by Cameron & Co, and proudly built by us, the 50-seater bakery has a subtle light-industrial aesthetic expressed through polished concrete, American oak detailing, pink-marble tabletops, skylights and limestone brick fixtures. The café & bakery fit-out pairs beautiful with Nodo’s relaxed, uncomplicated and fun approach to desserts, winning consumers & staff over with its well-balanced & masterfully executed interior design. INSPIRED BY | Baker D Chiciro – March Studio

Baker D. Chirico | Establishing itself as one of Melbourne’s best bakeries – Baker D. Chirico is known for its fresh bread, bestselling cannoli’s & unique store design. Customers can pick up a baked loaf of bread or even a raspberry frangipane tart. The store fit-out, designed by March Studio, takes inspiration from an oversized breadbasket. The bakery features wooden slats that cover the rear wall and ceiling of the shop, creating a waved-like ‘wall of bread’ that functions as shelving for loaves of bread. This unique fit-out concept can be seen from the shop front, so if the scent of oven-baked bread doesn’t draw your attention – the breathtaking design certainly will. Once inside, wooden chopping boards span the length of the bakery forming a countertop. Baker D. Chirico simplistic yet functional store fit-out mirrors the simple yet exquisite produce that the bakery cooks in-house.
